CNCNZ.com Will Prevail

Sonic, the founder and lead webmaster of this site, has chosen to step down.  Rather than let the site disappear into the abyss, he has generously allowed me to maintain the website.  What does this mean?

I, Zee Hypnotist, have returned to CNCNZ.com.  Sort of.  I am here mostly in spirit and to ensure that CNCNZ stays alive in one way or another.  Plokite_Wolf and Nmenth will remain as the admins who actually keep the site running, while I support them in any way I can.

Rest assured, you do not need to worry about archiving everything just yet, we will ensure that CNCNZ remains online, though there may be a temporary period of disruption while we transfer everything to (yet another) server host.

And to Sonic, we, the community, thank you for your 19 years of keeping this site alive.  Should you ever wish to return, your legacy will always remain.

NGWOL – New Red Alert 2 & Yuri's Revenge Server

Another Red Alert 2 and Yuri’s Revenge server alternative run by fans has emerged recently. NGWOL, much like XWIS, mimicks the old Westwood Online server and utilizes its lobby structure. Ladders for both games are available and functional, and the tool provided can have the games switch back and forth between NGWOL and XWIS. Information on signing up and connecting can be found on their website.

Throwback Thursday for 1st June

In this week’s Throwback Thursday feature, we look back at the two units which the fans wanted to see in C&C 3: Tiberium Wars and were returned in the Kane’s Wrath expansion – the Steel Talons versions of the Titan and the Wolverine. Filling the same roles as in C&C: Tiberian Sun, these redesigned mechs were a worthy throwback to the Second Tiberium War, and were no weaker than their Third Tiberium War counterparts from any side. In fact, they got a few purchasable upgrades of their own – the railgun and adaptive armour for the Titan, and AP ammo for the Wolverine.

The Rise and Fall of Command & Conquer – Redux

Over a month ago, the team at GVMERS, who had previously covered the fate of the cancelled FPS Tiberium, created a video on the entire C&C franchise. What you are looking at above is the corrected, definitive version – certain facts about things that happened behind the scenes in Westwood Studios, EA Pacific, EA Los Angeles and Victory Games have been proofread, and each game is now presented in higher detail, in order to better describe what made Command & Conquer what it is, in both its good and bad times. The video is now 10 minutes longer in total, so be sure to check it out!

Red Alert: A Path Beyond Version 3.1.0.0 Released

W3D Hub has released version 3.1.0.0 of Red Alert: A Path Beyond. This is the first major version since the first Delta release, with quite a lot of changes. The most important ones are the availability of Soviet Airfields and Yaks, Thieves being able to steal 33% of ore from ore silos on any map, Radar Domes having a special terminal for airlifting basic vehicles when the War Factory goes down, Redeye/Strela weapons no longer having homing characteristics, Grenadiers no longer having an “artillery form”, and lots of balance changes, tweaks and aesthetic improvements. Throwback Thursday for 18th May

In this week’s Throwback Thursday feature, we remember GDI’s first Tiberium-resistant infantry unit (which somehow needed about 50 years to appear), the Zone Troopers from C&C 3: Tiberium Wars. Outfitted with heavily armoured suits, Zone Troopers could cross even the most hostile terrain, and used in-built jet packs to reach barely accessible areas. They could be upgraded with Power Packs, which increased their total health and enabled self-healing, and Scanner Packs, which increased their sight range and gave them the ability to detect stealthed units. In Kane’s Wrath, they turned out to be particularly useful when garrisoned in Hammerheads, giving birth to the multiplayer favourite “Zonehead”. Along with the GDI commando, Zone Troopers were prominently featured in promotional artwork for the game, albeit in their earlier design which had their heads exposed.

New Tiberium Alliances Forums Coming Soon

It has been announced on the Official Tiberium Alliances Site that new community forums will be opened for all fans of the browser based Command & Conquer game. Here is the announcement….

Hi Commanders,

We’re happy to announce that next week on Monday, May 15, we will officially move to a new forum. The reworked forum will enable a lot more features, a new design and will get rid of annoying bugs and flaws in the usage of the forum. It will also provide you with an easier way of following threads and subscribing to topics and users.

Nothing will change for your player account and the way you log into the forums, your existing account and name will remain exactly the same.

The current forums content will sadly not be imported to the new forum. Important threads and topics will be moved to the new software by moderators and staff, but the majority of content and existing topics will not be moved.
We will make the current forum available as read-only so you are very welcome to look something up whenever you want. Nonetheless, please make sure to save any content that you might want to keep for yourself.

So just as it says you can expect to see these new forums on the 15th of May.
