In today’s Throwback Thursday, we remember one of the most well-known cancelled features in a Command & Conquer game – the Dropship loadout system that was to appear in Tiberian Sun. By this idea, the campaign missions were to feature a structure called the Dropship Bay (which still has its art and rules in the game files, but with missing art coding), which would have been a drop point for Orca Dropships that would have held the units the player chose before a mission as reinforcements. Contrary to popular belief, this feature was not cut due to time constraints, but, according to Tiberian Sun producer Rade Stojsavljević in a 2000 article for Gamasutra, simply because the team felt it was unnecessary. The Dropship Bay itself was recycled as the Upgrade Center. A modified version of the first GDI mission which has this feature enabled (without the Dropship Bay) can be found in the downloads section of the XCC home page.
