DBolical’s Mod of the Year and Indie of the Year 2017 Awards – Editors’ Choice

dbolical2017.png

Albeit belated, the results are in for the Editors’ Choice part of this year’s Mod of the Year and Indie of the Year awards. There were no C&C projects mentioned in the Indie of the Year, and only one mod was mentioned in the Mod of the Year picks – it’s Tiberium Secrets (for Tiberium Wars) with the Continuing Legacy Award.

Both award events have two more important dates scheduled. On December 27th, we will know the winners of the Players’ Choice pick in the Unreleased category, and on the 29th, in the Released category.

Yesterday, the 0.7 version of Twisted Insurrection, a standalone Tiberian Sun total conversion mod, has been released.  This is a pretty huge release, including a new “tech” faction – The Forsaken, 11 new skirmish/multiplayer maps, 14 new music tracks, new and improved unit and building graphics, new voiceovers, various fixes and tweaks, and so much more. You can download the full release here, and the full changelog is available here.

Throwback Thursday for 21st December

633px copy.png

Holidays are upon us, so this week in our Throwback Thursday feature, we remember one of the earliest showcases of the Scrin script, released just before the Christmas holidays of 2006. Why, might you ask? Well, once the community deciphered the letters (which were actually used as Roman numerals that indicate the letter’s position in the English alphabet), it turned out that it was a lovely season’s greeting from the “third faction” (as they were not publicly revealed as the Scrin at the time). Perhaps their Christmas present was postponing their invasion until March.

Check back again next Thursday for another Throwback. Send in your ideas for future instalments. We also encourage you to share this on social media using the hash tags #ThrowbackThursday, #CnCTBT and #CNCNZTBT.

C&C Music Monday (Final) – Rain In The Night Part 2

For our final Music Monday, we bring you Rain In The Night Part 2 from Tiberian Sun: Firestorm. Unlike the calming “first part”, this track gives the sense of something lurking or awaiting to happen.

We are phasing Music Mondays out in favour of our C&C Radio feature on our website, and are looking into more and better ways of bringing you entertaining content and gratuitous nostalgia.

Throwback Thursday for 14th December

This week in our Throwback Thursday feature, we feature the chopper with a license to chill – the Allied Cryocopter from Red Alert 3. True to the game’s unorthodox unit design, the Cryocopter lacked conventional weapons, but was equipped with an emitter that could either freeze targets so they were immobilized and easier to destroy, or fire the S.H.R.I.N.K. beam which, as the name implied, shrunk target units to a size susceptible to crushing (and caused their voiceovers to sound as if the pilots inhaled helium).

Ares 1.0 to be implemented in Mental Omega 3.3.3

Today, it has been announced that Mental Omega APYR, the largest and most popular Yuri’s Revenge mod, will implement Ares version 1.0 upon release as of patch 3.3.3. This will, among else, mean that Mental Omega will finally have proper support for saving and loading games, same as all other Yuri’s Revenge mods that will use this version of Ares. It is still being developed, and AlexB is distributing preliminary builds to testers (which are not to be used in published mods), while the ETA for Ares 1.0 and Mental Omega 3.3.3 is still unknown.

C&C Music Monday – Rain In The Night

This week’s pick for Music Monday is Rain In The Night from the original Command & Conquer. Unusual for an RTS game, this is a very calming track, complete with sax tracks! A new track will be posted next Monday. And as always, don’t forget to share this on social media using the hashtags #CnCMusicMonday and #MusicMonday. Also be sure to follow our new C&C Radio feature on the main site for more C&C music!

Throwback Thursday for 7th December

633px copy.png

This week in our Throwback Thursday feature, we continue our Ladies of C&C subseries – this time with Commander Zhana Agonskaya, who was played by Vanessa Branch. Zhana was the Soviet Air Force general in the singleplayer campaign and one of the skirmish/multiplayer AI personalities. As such, she preferes to send aircraft instead of ground and sea units in battle. While casual in tone like the other Soviet commanders, she treated her adversaries with a minimum of respect.
