Throwback Thursday for 8th March

8 March 2018 Off

633px copy.png

It's time for another Throwback Thursday! Today, we feature the iconic GDI unit from the first Command & Conquer from 1995, the original Mammoth Tank. This tracked monstrosity had dual cannons with which it punched 120mm holes through any armour, while it countered infantry and aircraft with its twin missile launchers. It was as expensive and slow as it was massive and powerful, and was the only iteration of this vehicle that required a Repair Facility instead of a Tech Center equivalent to be built. In every Command & Conquer game that was released afterwards, except for the Pogo-exclusive browser games, the Mammoth Tank or a redesigned equivalent made an appearance.

Remember, you can click on the preview to see a larger and more detailed image. Don't forget to check out the Throwback Thursdays archives if you've missed a week. Check back again next Thursday for another Throwback. Send in your ideas for future instalments. We also encourage you to share this on social media using the hash tags #ThrowbackThursday, #CnCTBT and #CNCNZTBT.

Is A New C&C Game In Development?

7 November 2017 Off

97KccUg.png

Greg Black, the former lead balance and multiplayer designer for C&C 3 and Red Alert 3, has returned to Electronic Arts. What does this mean? Some are asking the question: Is a new C&C game in development?

While there is no way to know, Greg Black is one of the most experienced developers within the Real-Time Strategy genre. Even after leaving EA (and C&C) after Red Alert 3, Greg Black continued to work on RTS games, most recently Blizzard's StarCraft II expansions. One might believe he wouldn't leave a lucrative job at Blizzard without a good reason. Maybe that reason is a new Command & Conquer game.

Greg himself seems interested in calling attention to his new job, as hinted at on his own Twitter feed, with the message:
"Survived my first day back at @EA
It's a weird feeling being back after all this time. Can't wait to show you all what I'm working on."

What do you think it means? Feel free to discuss, debate, fight, kick, and scream your comments below. Please note that this is complete and utter speculation, and we do not want you to take any suggestion of a new C&C game as fact until an official announcement is made by EA.

Origin Update Breaks Fixed Launchers for The Ultimate Collection

9 July 2017 Off

QCyO1rS.png

As some of you may have already noticed, a recent Origin update apparently changed the client's way of operation, which among else rendered Bibber's fixed launchers for The Ultimate Collection useless. This means that other community fixes, parameters and mods won't work with these versions of C&C games. There is currently no solution to this problem, but we will keep you posted once there is.

Discussions relevant to those two mods have been ported to the new forums as well, so you will not miss out on anything.

Gren has uploaded his latest Red Alert 3 map. Its a near perfect remake of Riverside Rumble for Tiberium Wars. Here's the details.

Riverside Rumble Redux

Red Alert 3 Skirmish map created from the original C&C 3 Tiberium Wars map. The map has been made into a 4 player version with lots of assets and mining opportunities. Naval construction is disabled so its an all-out Air & Land conflict. The map is most enjoyable as a 2v2 with players to the North of the river teaming up against the players to the South.
