New Article: Totally Not Angry Response To Stupid Community Comments

In another new article, I've decided to publicly vent about quite a few misinformed and outright stupid comments I've encountered in the C&C community over the past few years on almost all sites and chat rooms I've been to. Sadly, most of these things are frequently repeated over and over. The statements I've made there are sincere mirrors of what I think and feel, so easily offended people beware. Throwback Thursday for 21st September

Throwback Thursday for 21st September

Today’s Throwback Thursday feature ventures a bit outside the C&C series, but is still linked to it. The Sims 2 introduced a selection of games that the Sims could play on their computers, all of them, naturally, being EA-published titles like SimCity 4: Rush Hour, SSX 3, and others. This list was expanded in the FreeTime expansion pack, and one of the titles included was C&C 3: Tiberium Wars. When a Sim runs the game, the screen first shows the Tiberium EA ident, followed by actual gameplay footage, all of which seems to have at least one Annihilator Tripod firing.

Remember, you can click on the preview to see a larger and more detailed image. Don’t forget to check out the Throwback Thursdays archives if you’ve missed a week. Check back again next Thursday for another Throwback. Send in your ideas for future instalments. We also encourage you to share this on social media using the hash tags #ThrowbackThursday, #CnCTBT and #CNCNZTBT.

TaxOwlbear Plays Red Alert Mobile

TaxOwlbear Plays Red Alert Mobile

Plokite_Wolf |

Red Alert Mobile is an almost undocumented title in the Command & Conquer series. One variant was released for then-standard phones in Java format, and another, better known, for the iPhone and iPad. Both were released in 2009 by EA Mobile Romania, and take place between Yuri’s Revenge and Red Alert 3, hence the technologies seen ingame are a mix of both. The iOS versions received an expansion with the Empire of the Rising Sun, but the Java version apparently did not. @TaxOwlbear, a community member with a respectable list of games he’s recorded, including the vast majority of C&C titles, started releasing let’s play videos of the Java version, starting with the Soviet campaign. Stay tuned to his YouTube channel for more, as new RA Mobile videos will be released on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8 AM UTC.

C&C Music Monday – Alien Arrival

C&C Music Monday - Alien Arrival

Plokite_Wolf |

This week’s pick for Music Monday is Alien Arrival (also referred to in an obscure promo soundtrack release as Time To Take Out The Trash) from C&C 3: Tiberium Wars. A fitting track which was used during the introduction of the Scrin, with an inhibited start and a pounding finish. A new track will be posted next Monday. And as always, don’t forget to share this on social media using the hashtags #CnCMusicMonday and #MusicMonday.

C&C Community News - Early September 2017

Several things have been going on in the C&C community in the past few days, so we’ll go through them briefly:

  • The Red Alter mod team have started working after a long hiatus, and have released the source models of what they’ve created so far.
  • Kane’s Wrath Reloaded (a Tiberium Wars mod despite the name) has been updated to version 1.91.
  • Rampastring’s alternate Tiberian Sun client has been updated to version 5.40 (use 5.30, then update it manually), and now even features the missions that were exclusive to the demo.
  • An unofficial hotfix was released for the Zero Hour mod Shockwave, which resolves the pink Pathfinder texture on snow maps, fixes Kwai in the General’s Challenge and makes Tao use his advanced nuclear silo in skirmishes and the General’s Challenge. A full install of Shockwave version 1.201 is still required.
  • OpenRA playtest version 20170902 has been released, featuring 40 resolved issues, a balance overhaul and the new “Agenda” map for the Red Alert mod, balance tweaks for the Tiberian Dawn mod, and a new version of the Mod SDK.

C&C Music Monday – Defend the Base

C&C Music Monday - Defend the Base

This week’s pick for Music Monday is the Yuri’s Revenge track Defend the Base. Another slower composition, it was positioned as a late game track, and to me personally it brings memories of all those prolonged matches. A new track will be posted next Monday. And as always, don’t forget to share this on social media using the hashtags #CnCMusicMonday and #MusicMonday.

Throwback Thursday for 31st August

Throwback Thursday for 31st August

31 August is celebrated as the anniversary of the release of the original Command & Conquer from 1995. Today’s Throwback Thursday feature goes back to the original game’s Nod ending, where Nod Netrunners transfer their consciousness to virtual orbs within cyberspace in an attempt to hack the GDI ion cannon uplink, but should these orbs be destroyed, the Netrunner is killed. Their chairs even make an appearance in C&C Renegade. They were portrayed by Ed Del Castillo, Ian Pugh and Frank Klepacki.

Remember, you can click on the preview to see a larger and more detailed image. Don’t forget to check out the Throwback Thursdays archives if you’ve missed a week. Check back again next Thursday for another Throwback. Send in your ideas for future instalments. C&C Music Monday – Running Through Pipes

C&C Music Monday - Running Through Pipes

This week’s pick for Music Monday is Running Through Pipes from C&C Red Alert: The Aftermath. Like many tracks from the expansions for the original Red Alert, this track was apparently made to create a specific mood rather than follow a hectic battle. A new track will be posted next Monday. And as always, don’t forget to share this on social media using the hashtags #CnCMusicMonday and #MusicMonday.

After 10 years of tedious work and dedication, the C&C Tiberian Dawn Redux mod team is nearing completion of the complete remaster of the original GDI and Nod campaigns from the original Tiberian Dawn. The final campaign missions are slated for release this fall, along with balancing tweaks, revised coding and scripting edits to further polish the gameplay experience.
